Endorsement season heats up in Boston

The Dorchester Reporter reports that, in addition to the former hizzona, City Councilor Frank Baker has endorsed John FitzGerald to replace him as District 3 (Dorchester) city councilor.

The brothers Worrell (state Rep. Chris and City Councilor Brian) have endorsed Henry Santana for one of the four at-large council seats in the fall elections:

Henry Santana is deeply rooted in Boston. He understands what makes our city so incredible and what challenges we face. Henry will bring his experience, as an effective leader in government and dedicated advocate for the community to the City Council.

I heard Ricky Bobby and Cole Trickle have endorsed Kendra Lara (f/k/a Kendra Hicks for Six). She's got a need for speed!

Rowdy Burns and Maverick are sitting it out so far.

“I think John has a good temperament,” Baker said Wednesday.

if Frank Baker thinks this guy has a good temperament that's an instant DQ for me

Look Ma. Tape said he didn't like something about Frank Baker.

Are you going to go with Salem Heretic and "visit" him or was that your early stages of Covid keyboard bravado?

Remember - January Sixers - Bad. Blow Ins to Dorchester not agreeing with a non-binding City Council resolution and then implying physical violence on a politician should be done - Good? No It is not good.

Christ - Your schtick again and again about him is pathetic.

Have any of you?
I'm sure it carries some weight with public unions but I'm not sure it does with the public at large.

That's why I'm set about mocking the whole thing.

It raises the profile of the candidate and separates them from the pretenders.

I mean, John FitzGerald gets that little bit of publicity.

Of course, people forget that Frank Baker has people who canvass for him, so some of those people will be holding signs, staffing phone banks, or what have you. That's definitely worth something.

the large segment of local political activists who work to protect their job or business/non-profit interests want to back the winner and to be seen doing so.

In election where there isn't much information available (which is often the case of local elections) an endorsement can be useful for figuring out politicians' positions, since if group X likes a candidate the candidate probably agrees with group X on stuff. Although you also have to take into account whatever non-ideological reasons one candidate might get along well with some other entity.
