Any remaining Brighams ice cream?

Mbcrowley asks:

Any Brighams ice cream fans out there? I reached out to HPHood that makes it and they said they have temporarily suspended production. Looking for Vanilla and coffee if anyone sees it in store.

I'm pretty sure most Stop & Shops & Star Markets still carry some of the basic flavors.

One quart of coffee. I had no idea production was suspended. No wonder I couldn’t find chocolate chip.

Even if there was I'm sure it doesn't as good as it used to. 60 Minutes should do a special on the consumer rip off of all the long time products (Dawn dish detergent, Hood Ice Cream, Reeses cups, Hershey bars, laundry detergents, shampoos, designer clothing, etc ) don't taste or look or feel like the quality they used to. What changes were made to decrease quality and raise prices over the past several years, and even more so since the Covid Age? WTF?

It's been like that for decades- going back to new Coke rollout and the Doritos relaunch- even accounting for the Mandela Effect on this- I was talking to my dad last week about beers (Lowenbrau, Miller Genuine Draft, others) that seemed to lose their market with changed flavors/ brewing/ etc.

Is a silly excuse for people who don't pay attention.

Friendly’s Chocolate Chip Ice Cream – highest concentration of chocolate chips not only in number but also thickness. Creamy taste. Beats hands down HP Hoods.

Thick chocolate chips are a point against Fiendly's, not a positive trait.

Sheesh! Some people with their food preferences!

Enjoy it, as I won't be taking it from the shelves... unlike the Brigham's.

Roches in West Roxbury and likely that chain carries Brigham's Ice Cream in their packaged format.

There are no Brigham Ice Cream parlors left. Some were sole to independents that carried on under their own names.

That Friendly's suspended production. I know they struggling financially so likely need to cut cost and focus on their own brand.

I wonder if a petition would do any good. Even better would N.E. be enough to sustain them restarting production

Can you tell us more about what they did?

to the foods and the rare surviving restaurants of my youth (usually slightly disappointed) is because my tastes changed or the product got worse. Probably some of both.

Ice cream is one I'm certain got a lot better since I was a kid: I never find myself reaching for one of those legacy brands in the freezer case.

That said, I still have a tender spot for a soft-serve chocolate/vanilla swirl cone. That one hits my nostalgia button hard.

I grew up in Eastern Pennsylvania and after my dad's funeral having been away for decades I went for a proper cheesesteak. It was a greasy disgusting mess, I am certain it was identical to when I was young.

I also grew up in eastern Pennsylvania and never understood why anyone would eat those things.

They used to sell soft-serve cones down in NYC. I'm thinking of the Ben & Jerry's on Broadway on the UWS near W 103 St. They were wonderful. I don't know if they still sell soft-serve there or anywhere around here, though. It would be worth a try.

Give it a try.

Despite being an import from the other coast, I second this recommendation. Definitely very good strawberry and peach flavored ice creams.

I feel like my local 7-11 has a few Brigham's options, next to their home brand banana version (which is pretty darn good)
