The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the Boston area that runs through 7 p.m. on Monday:
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris.

River flooding and ocean
River flooding and ocean flooding are different, although since Dorchester Bay is what the Neponset River flows into, I suppose it's possible it'll happen anyway.

Morrisey floods in more than one place. During heavy rains, the road can flood under the Red Line tracks by Lamberts.
I almost lost my car there once during a thunderstorm a couple years ago.
Sometimes the same
If a river is an estuary - a tidal area where the river meets the sea - a high tide can do two things. It can push water up river and into adjacent land areas, and it can block fresh water coming down river from flowing into the ocean, backing up the river.
That second scenario is the nightmare scenario for the Charles and the Mystic, where the water needs to get through the dams. A high tide can overtop these dams, but the water from the river will also back up behind the dams and needs to get over.
The operating condition and capacity of the water cannons used to shoot fresh water over the top of the dam have been a major issue for the local communities of late - we came close to disaster in 2018, and it turns out that some of the cannons were not fully operational. That is being remedied at the state and federal level.
The Big Storm!
Once again, they exaggerated a storm and the ferries were even cancelled this morning because of "The Big Storm," which of course just turned out to be some rain.

It was a whole lot of rain in the Mission Hill area last night. Not so bad after the sun came up but still mighty wet.
I agree it wasn't really a gully washer only because the puddles in Brigham Circle did not look like small ponds like the usually do during major rain storms.
Anybody actually travel on Morrisey Boulevard yesterday morning?
