This is going to sound wack: Orange Line woes caused by Amtrak

Not everything that goes wrong on the T is the T's fault, it seems. First it was the little duck and today, the T says, it had to shut the Orange Line between Forest Hills and Back Bay after an overhead Amtrak power line unspooled or snapped or something near Ruggles, causing problems for the neighboring subway line.
Most comuter-line trains were rerouted via the Fairmount Line, but four Needham Line trains were cancelled, WFXT reports.

Shutdown was already scheduled between Forest Hills and Ruggles
this weekend, so I didn't know anything else was going on.
What a pain for many.

Well, that's weird
I didn't know the Orange Line and Amtrak shared the same power source. The Orange Line power is 600 volts DC, but Amtrak uses 25,000 volts AC at 60 Hertz.
High voltage power lines
High voltage power lines coming down can cause problems even if you weren't using that power.
it's not about a shared power source
I believe the issue is that you can't safely run the Orange line trains when, close by on the adjacent Amtrak tracks, there's a (possibly still energized) high voltage line loose on the ground.
