Man charged with attacking cop who asked him to stop smoking at Ashmont T stop, police say
Transit Police report that around 10 a.m. yesterday at the Ashmont T station, an officer "politely requested a 27y/o male cease smoking." Instead, police say, "He became hostile, combative and assaulted the officer" - all while packing a steak knife in his waistband.
Dorchester Municipal Court records show that Jaylin Irie Smith Thompson, already wanted on other warrants, was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, carrying a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest. A judge ordered him sent to Bridgewater State Hospital to determine if he is competent to stand trial. His next court date was scheduled for May 23.
Innocent, etc.

I see these guys daily Red Line
"Crazy" homeless travel back and forth between Quincy, Boston, Cambridge. I can differentiated between run of the mill druggie homeless and someone demonstrably schizophrenic. Mostly men, all ages. Noticed an uptick in obviously seriously mentally young men. Some homeless druggies probably have a personality disorder, but Schizophrenia and other serious mental illness not uncommon.
Whatever you say, Doc.
.
I believe it.
Have a loved one who was randomly attacked on the Red Line. Trial is coming up.
I’m not doubting these incidents happen.
Sorry about your loved one.
I’m doubting Doc Anonymous has a medical degree and is able to diagnose random people over a comments section.
