Supreme Court tells Carlisle residents still upset about face masks in 2021 to give it a rest

The Carlisle Mosquito buzzes that the US Supreme Court this week declined to hear arguments by a group of Carlisle residents who felt the town was trampling on their rights in 2021 by adopting regulations requiring mask use in the town library and whatever other public spaces the small town has.

The residents had earlier lost in federal court in Boston, where judges said most of the residents failed to prove they'd actually been denied entry anywhere and that, in any case, the town had the right to act to protect public health during a public-health emergency - and that, yes, the Covid-19 pandemic was, in fact, a public-health emergency.

Seriously, you have to wonder how many more in Carlisle would have died without mask use? But deniers don't see it that way. They argue "I didn't wear a mask and I'm fine." completely ignoring that the people who did wear masks may have saved their lives.

I know someone who got their father in law sick and he was in the hospital for six months and almost died. It ravaged his body, but he did survive. Their lesson from all of this? The power of prayer saves lives.

People who screamed bloody murder about wearing a mask in 2020-1 were enormous jerks. It was a relatively minor inconvenience to ask at a time when we had no idea WTF we were up against or what to do.

By the same token people who still, on the doorstep of 2025, insist that masks were SO IMPORTANT to public health are overindulging our recreational cannabis industry's fine products. I wore mine religiously, distanced with a vengeance, sanitized my groceries and got vaccinated at the Hynes when my number came up, and then realized in hindsight that I didn't get Covid until early 2024 because my partner and I both got it in February of 2020.

I was more catholic than the pope about Covid and all I got was damage to my mental health that I think is finally now just beginning to fully resolve.

Science cuts both ways on this one. The vax was effective and masks were not.

Fun times!

I wish this site would follow the ruling and give the Covid and mask stories a rest. Time to move on.

Perhaps just pass the stories by? Because I'm going to keep writing them.

I mean, there are still people filing Covid-related suits (like as recently as Friday), and judges are still ruling on them (as recently as last month), so they're still making news, at least to me (I'll grant you other media outlets ignore them, but I'm still fascinated by them).
