Man who once tried to shoot a Boston cop was speeding up Blue Hill Avenue with a loaded gun and five knives, one with brass knuckles attached, police say

Boston Police report officers who spotted a guy speed past them on American Legion Highway and then turn left onto Blue Hill Avenue early this morning wound up arresting the driver on a variety of charges, several involving this third or fourth offenses for unlawful possession of dangerous weapons.

Police say that officers, who caught up with Calvin Horne, 38, of Holbrook, nearly 2 1/2 miles away on Wolcott Street, off Columbia Road, shortly after 1:15 a.m., initially planned to charge him with driving without insurance and other driving offenses.

Officers advised the operator of the reason for the stop and that he needed to exit the vehicle as it would be towed. Officers conducted a motor vehicle inventory search and recovered a firearm from inside. The firearm was later determined to be a Phoenix Arms HP22A with ten rounds in the magazine. Officers continued to search the vehicle and recovered five knives with one having brass knuckles affixed to it.

Horne was charged with unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, third offense, unlawful possession of a firearm, third offense, unlawful possession of ammunition, subsequent offense, committing a firearm offense with three prior violent/drug crimes, unlawful possession of a large-capacity feeding device, carrying a dangerous weapon (the brass knuckles) and carrying a dangerous weapon, fourth offense. He was also charged as a habitual criminal, which could mean a longer sentence if he's convicted on the other charges - and was given a ticket for multiple driving offenses, police say.

In 2006, Horne shot at a BPD officer responding to a report of gunfire near Langdon Street in Roxbury, although he missed. In 2012, fresh out of prison after his conviction, he began fighting another BPD officer trying to arrest him on a drug charge in Codman Square in Dorchester and tried to grab his gun.

Innocent, etc.

“My concern is that this man is someone who has been just released from state prison and has hit the gound running with criminal activity,’’ Gobourne said.

He keeps running...

I haven't done any criming yet, but if I ever do, this will be my lodestone.

Get the getaway car inspected. Don't drive more than 10mph above the posted limit with a trunkful of meth. Cut the tag off the mattress, but don't put ketchup on a hot dog while lying on top of it. Beware the hot dame trying to get you to murder her husband and also engage in securities fraud.

So a one year minimum sentence for this current carrying a loaded firearm violation for this stop. I wonder if this being his third offense will extend the sentence as well as his already being a convicted felon?
