You snooze, you lose: Dorchester man arrested after police find him sleeping in a schoolyard with a loaded gun
Boston Police report officers investigating a call about an unconscious man in the yard of the Oliver Wendell Holmes on School Street around 6 this morning found a sleeping man with a gun tucked under one arm.
Fearing for their safety, the officers quickly removed the gun from under the suspects arm area and woke him up. The suspect became startled and attempted to get up and struggled briefly with the officers. Officers quickly gained control of the suspect and secured him with handcuffs for safety. A backpack was also recovered from the suspect that contained two digital scales and a black ski-mask. The gun taken from the suspect was loaded with several rounds of ammunition.
Rodney Cooper, 18, of Dorchester, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm in public, having a firearm on school property and trespassing, police say.
