Newmarket Square carjacking ends in crash in Dorchester

Boston Police report arresting a man they say stole a car at knifepoint early this morning only to crash it into another car a mile down Mass. Ave.

Police charge that Byren McGee, 31, of Dorchester, used a knife to get a woman out of her car on Theodore Glynn Way at Mass. Ave. then drove off down Mass. Ave. for about a mile before crashing into another car in Edward Everett Square around 12:50 a.m. Police say two Boston cops on routine patrol heard the crash and got to the scene just as McGee had gotten out and was running away:

Officers gave chase, and when the operator attempted to climb a fence behind the nearby KFC, they were able to stop him and place him in handcuffs. A pat frisk for weapons revealed an empty knife sheath in the operator’s waistband.

McGee was charged with carjacking and leaving the scene of a motor-vehicle crash causing personal injury, police say, adding he was also wanted on a warrant out of Dorchester Municipal Court on charges of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and threats to commit a crime.

Innocent, etc.
