Man arrested after gunfire in the Fenway and car crash in Dudley Square, police say
Boston Police report arresting a man whose description matched that of the guy spotted by witnesses firing a gun around 12:15 this morning on Jersey Street at Queensberry Street - after a car chase, crash and foot pursuit through Dudley Square.
Police say Shawn Tyler, 29, sped away from Jersey in a green Chevy and that some responding officers spotted him in the corner at Tremont and Ruggles streets. When they activated their lights and siren, police say, he floored it.
Officers observed the operator duck down, reach toward the passenger seat and quickly accelerated onto Ruggles Street. Officers observed the suspect’s vehicle drive through multiple stop signs on Ruggles Street and Shawmut Avenue, but while attempting to turn onto Washington Street at a high rate of speed, the suspect crashed through a fence and struck a tree forcing it to come to an abrupt stop. The suspect got out of the motor vehicle, fled on foot through numerous yards and jumped over fences in the Orchard Park area.
Police say Tyler didn't go quietly - he unsuccessfully tried to fight his way out of arrest.
Police say that back at the crash scene, other officers recovered "a silver Ruger 357 Magnum New Model Blackhawk with one live cartridge and four spent shell casings" from the car's front passenger seat.
Tyler was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and assault and battery on a police officer. He will also get a ticket for numerous driving violations, police say.
Innocent, etc.
