Police: Drug suspect tries ramming cops with his car in East Boston in failed getaway effort

Boston Police report arresting an alleged drug dealer and two of his customers in East Boston Sunday afternoon after, they say, he and one of his customers tried driving into cops.

According to police, drug-unit officers spotted three men in an apparent drug transaction around 1 p.m. at Saratoga and Swift streets:

Officers approached the individuals, one of whom was on foot walking towards Swift Street. Upon approach, the male pushed one of the officers with both hands in an attempt to flee. Officers eventually secured the male in the area of 591 Saratoga Street, and subsequently located a Smith and Wesson M&P .380 Body Guard firearm loaded with six rounds of live ammunition from the suspect who was then taken into custody.

The other two, though, got in a car and drove towards Rte. 1A, police say:

Officers observed the operator fail to use his turn signal then immediately pulled to the side of the road with both males simultaneously placing their heads toward their lap as if they were examining an item. Officers activated their emergency equipment (lights and sirens) in an effort to conduct a traffic stop. The Hispanic male operator abruptly placed his car in drive and attempted to flee the scene. The suspect switched gears between drive and reverse, striking a parked car and a police cruiser occupied by officers. Officers exited their vehicle and approached the suspect who was still actively trying to flee the scene in his motor vehicle, at one point accelerating towards officers. A violent struggle took place both inside and outside of the suspect’s motor vehicle. Eventually, the operator was subdued and taken into custody. The male passenger was also removed from the vehicle without incident and placed under arrest. Officers located a folding knife on the operator’s person. Officers additionally recovered a plastic bag containing a substance believed to be cocaine from inside of the vehicle along with an undisclosed amount of US Currency.

Nicholas Boyd, 18, of Everett, the alleged guy with the gun, was charged with unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, carrying a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest and assault and battery with a police officer, police say.

Brendan Boyd, 22, also of Everett, was not charged with anything related to the incident, but was taken in for violation of a restraining order out of Malden District Court, police say.

Angelo Ramos, 22, of Winthrop, was charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, assault by means of a dangerous weapon, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, malicious destruction of a motor vehicle and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, police say.
