Man shot to death in robbery attempt at closing time on Canal Street; two arrested

Victim identified as Fouad Baghdad-Zouggagh, 25, of West Roxbury.
Boston Police report a man was fatally shot around 2 a.m.
Bryan Rice, 22, was arrested not long after and charged with murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and attempted armed robbery, police say. Anthony Baptista-Goncalves, 24, was charged with accessory before and after the fact to commit murder and attempted armed robbery, police say.
Live Boston reports the victim was shot at least twice, once in the head.
Innocent, etc.

The Herald seems to be the only news outlet reporting this occurred "near" a Rick Ross concert. Is there a connection?

Golly what a surprise the Herald is the only "news" outlet "reporting" such a thing, right?
It appears there’s no connection, no.
Given the article today from the Globe (https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2019/11/25/two-due-court-for-canal-str...), there certainly appears to be no connection whatsoever.
I’m sure the Herald will apologize for the bigoted implications of their reporting, and the cesspool of comments there will be cleaned right up.

As WHDH reported two days ago, the victim had gone to Banners, one of the bars in the new Garden complex.

That area use to be trouble in the 1970s and 1980s it seems like it’s back to its old ways.

How often do you actually spend time around there? The idea of calling this a trouble area is absurd.

Jumping into a live shot of a news crew reporting this story. It's a swell area with no problems.
I walk through there every day, and have for decades.
Middle of the day it's very safe, no problem. Middle of the night, different story. It's long been the hangout for homeless drinkers, and we also have the methadone clinic kids who hang out. These populations are on their best behavior when they are outnumbered 100 to 1 by commuters and office workers. Those same people are a lot more aggressive after the crowds clear out.
The area has always been sketchy.
Until recently there was never any housing there. With no one to care it has long been a safe place for people and activity not welcome in the North End. All the new residences are changing that, but some people are slow learners. There are cameras everywhere and these guys tried to getaway by driving through the intersection of canal and causeway? Tourists.
Development
The largest cause is simply the increase in development. It brings more people the area late at night. Nightclubs, hotels, and thousands of residences that didn’t exist a few years ago. More people = More crime.
I was born and raised in the Bronx and Boston
(I'm a white dude ; ), and if you think the North Station area is sketchy, you've lived a pretty sheltered life. I witnessed and experience extreme violence and urban decay that many people reading this would think I was making up.
Any place by with a concentration of bars and clubs has the potential for trouble, especially closing time.

I am a white dude
And I said it because in my experience most, especially white, people, believe everyone in the South Bronx is and was PR or black. This was not true. It's not true today or in past.
And I'm not and never said I was a 'killah'. I also lived a few blocks from Bromley Heath. Anybody who thinks it's really bad today should have experienced what it was like 30-40 years ago.
