Police: Randolph man, local teen were walking around Mildred Hailey with loaded gun, high-capacity magazine

Boston Police report arresting a Randolph man and a Jamaica Plain 17-year-old on gun charges early this morning after foot chases, one of which ended when the suspect tripped and fell, allowing pursuing cops to catch up to him.

Police say two officers driving down Horan Way in the Mildred Hailey Apartments around 2 a.m. "observed two males walking towards them, becoming disoriented when they apparently realized the vehicle officers were operating was a police cruiser."

The cops got out to talk to the two, who ran away.

Officers pursued the males who fled through a courtyard in between 154 Heath Street and 50 Heath Street. The first suspect ran through the front door of 154 Heath Street while the second male continued through the courtyards and onto Heath Street.

Officers pursued the first suspect, who was clutching the right side of his waistband, to an unknown residence at 154 Heath Street. As officers ascended the steps to the apartment, they heard an object fall to the ground as the suspect attempted to evade officers by slamming the door closed on them. A brief struggle ensued in the doorway before the suspect let go and proceeded into the apartment. Officers entered the apartment and placed the male under arrest. On the stairs of the apartment, officers located a small blue bag containing a high capacity firearm magazine loaded with six rounds of live ammunition and a small plastic bag containing a substance believed to be crack cocaine.

Meanwhile, the second suspect was having better luck - other officers who arrived on scene spotted him discarding something as he ran onto Heath Street, towards South Huntington, then lost sight of him when he turned down Schiller Street. But he tripped and fell to the ground, which let officers catch up to him and arrest him, police say, adding:

A Smith & Wesson MP Shield 9mm firearm with an obliterated serial number, loaded with seven rounds of live ammunition, was located in the exact area where the suspect had turned onto Heath Street from the courtyards.

Josua Muriel, 22, , of Randolph, was charged with unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, possession of a Class B substance and trespassing, police say. The 17-year-old, too young to have his name released, was charged as delinquent for unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition, police say.
