In the plaza at Washington and Franklin streets next to Millennium Tower, around 1:45 p.m., possibly by one of two guys on red scooters who drove up to a group of men standing there, then raced away.

Was coming out of the gym right after this happened. There was a nice big pool of blood right in front of the T station. Can't say I'm surprised by this given the zip code and there have been a ton of vagrants just hanging around in the T entrance loitering, smoking crack, etc. for months. Maybe this gets BPD's attention right as the busy DTX crime season starts gearing up for summer.
Where are the Transit Police?

I work in the area and it
I work in the area and it seems the problems you described have gotten worse since the pandemic. However, I can't say for sure if it actually has gotten worse for sure.
Anyone who is familiar with the area knows there have always been a bunch of sketchy types that hang around the area. I can't say for sure if there are actually more of them, or if the fact that there are less people (workers, shoppers, tourists) in DTX, that they're just more noticeable. Whereas, they for the most part blended in with the crowd pre-pandemic.

I went out some during the height of the lock down.
Remember, shelters had to implement social distancing, but there's still people out on the street. They have to go somewhere.
What few people I saw on the streets from March to May-ish (about this time last year) was mostly this.
I've griped about Davis Sq recently here in the past, but why its happening is the same. There's more people than beds/treatment/shelters . They have to go somewhere........
Add pandemic, and I am sure, adding to people in the 'burbs who came to the city in hopes to get beds.
I see a few mayor candidates talk about cleaning up "the mile" but its a regional thing. Boston + Cambridge, Somerville, Chelsea, Medford, Quincy, Milton, etc etc all need to work together. Without fixing some of the cause & affect, whatever one community does will have little effect if others do nothing. People will just go elsewhere.
PS - I worked in DTX for a few years recently and there were always the regular people I saw, but nothing like it is now. I see more now than I did in the days of Menino's hole, when DTX wasn't a shopping mecca after Filene's closed.

Some of the larger firms are having workers come back to office mid summer. Where there are drugs there are guns and violence. Simple fact. There is a lot of wealth that can demand cleanup.

on two separate occasions, years apart, i have had a guy come up to me in DTX, open up his jacket and expose a bunch of stolen gold chains that he was selling. i used thought that shit only happened in like 1980's times square and movies based around the pre-guiliani NYC. clearly, i was mistaken.
tl/dr: dtx will forever be a magnet for seedy shit, despite gentrification

I've remember guys in DTX opening their jackets to show me Gillette razor cartridges. I'm not kidding. There's a reason they keep those things behind plastic panels in CVS.
Bad News Plaza
That "plaza" has been bad news since day one. It invites lingering. And we have unfortunately seen what kind of people lingering in DTX. And stairs that go nowhere are never a good idea.

yeah but they have a point. I'm in DTX often. I work in davis, live in chelsea, DTX is a transfer point for me. Its too easy to go upstairs and hit a few stores (vs trekking over to the Gateway Center).
When there's a concert going on.. even if its just a 3 person band walking around that has set up shop in front for an informal show. Its great, and there's no real issue.
Its when there's nothing going on, and the ambassadors have long since gone home, or its a chilly/rainy/dark day and the shoppers are far and few between.. is when the issue starts.
Last year when we were all locked down and I'd go out, there were always people sitting there or on the planter near the tower. No masks, of course.
It just seems like the defacto place to 'hang out'. People just climb over the chains and sit. And the T entrance is below (to get high) or a short walk to a deserted financial district street (I saw lots of ppl in doorways over that way).

All that may be true, but who cares? People are hanging out on some public seating... what's the scandal? This is the central core of the biggest city in the whole region. There are a ton of people in DTX and they don't magically disappear when the cleaning staff goes home. Someone is always doing something other people would rather they not do. This is what cities have always been like.
Hope the empty investment properties weren't too traumatized.
Still, can't be too good for Millenium Tower resale values.

Not really. People who live
Not really. People who live there have valet and private transportation to pick them up at front door of their luxury oasis to whisk them away from the bowels below to their other summer homec across the seas. U and I can't relate.

People Do Live There
It is amazing if you look up at the windows in the winter, people are watching Inside Edition or E, and not the Vienna Philharmonic.
Not being a perv but if you work in a nearby building, park there and leave late, it is not hard to tell what is on the 60 inch tv.
This was a beef amongst the less addressed people of the area.
I know we have a live and let live, but with people shooting up in doorways along Bromfield Street and a lot of people knowing that there is going to be no consequences, you play to the whistle and get away with what you can. Apparently open daylight shooting in what it the center of Boston has entered the game. That sucks.
The number of people chiming
The number of people chiming in who are scared of DTX is amazing. One guy got shot. Almost certainly over some other shit, dudes don't shoot dudes for no reason. I work right in the heart of DTX see the life from mid day to the wee hours, saw the police motorcade roll through. No big deal. It's a city.
Things have always happened
Things have always happened downtown and in the commons. I’ve never felt it was that bad tho but that’s most likely due to how I grew up where that type of shit is normal. I’ve been out in the commons and surrounding areas at all hours of the night and besides the occasional ol’ squabble or somebody getting jumped/stabbed/shot (which was rare) it never seemed like it was crazy. Definitely not like other cities I’ve lived in in the states.
