Police report that shortly before 7 p.m. on Saturday, officers monitoring an event at Harambee Park "observed a young male clenching a fanny pack underneath his left arm" near Talbot Avenue and Wales Street.
Police say the officers went over to check him out, but he tried to escape through a crowd.
Officers lost sight of the male, and then observed him sitting on a ledge with a group of individuals.
The officers approached the suspect for a second time, and observed him to be clenching the fanny pack tighter to his body. Officers requested the suspect to stand up in order to conduct a pat frisk. After further investigation, officers recovered a firearm from the bag. The firearm was later determined to be a Smith and Wesson with one round in the chamber and twelve rounds in the magazine. Officers entered the backyard where the party was taking place and were provided a description of the suspect as a black male in his late teens, with a black face mask, wearing all black, and carrying a firearm near his waist.
As Officers searched the large crowd of people, they were able to locate an individual matching the description provided. Officers approached the individual and conducted an investigation, leading to the recovery of a loaded magazine from a fanny pack worn across the suspect’s chest. The magazine was determined to be a 9mm Lugar magazine loaded with 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
