DA says teller at West Roxbury credit union and his brother staged a holdup that unraveled even as they were driving home to Brockton

The Energy Credit Union, 156 Spring St. in West Roxbury, was robbed of nearly $200,000 in a holdup shortly before 1 p.m. yesterday that investigators soon realized was staged by a teller and his brother, posing as a robber, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

According to the DA's office, a man walked into the credit union office and handed teller Jenel Flounoury, 28, of Brockton a note reading: "Hand it over."

Jenel Flounoury immediately turned around and entered a closed door containing the main vault. Jenel Flounoury opened the top right vault and retrieved all the money in that vault and placed approximately $197,146 in US currency in a blue ATM bag.

He then handed the bag to the robber, who politely said "thank you, sir" and fled, the DA's office says.

Credit-union officials quickly realized something didn't add up:

The Chief Financial Officer informed investigators that Jenel Flounoury’s actions, such as not looking in his cash drawer, immediately going to the vault without being instructed to do so, and providing more than the amount demanded were suspicious and inconsistent with how tellers are trained on bank robbery procedures.

Plus, the credit union had fired him in May of last year for "violation of company policy" and only rehired him last month, the DA's office says.

Investigators from both BPD and the FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force, which investigates Boston bank robberies, decided to discretely follow Jenel Flounory after work to the Brockton home where he lived with his brother, Justin, 32:

Investigators then observed both brothers ignite a fire in the side yard and burning what appeared to be clothing inside a grill.

At approximately 1:45 a.m., investigators executed a search warrant on the Brockton residence and located a large amount of U.S. currency. Both Jenel and Justin Flounoury were placed under arrest without incident.

The brothers were both arraigned on a charge of larceny over $1,200 and conspiracy in West Roxbury Municipal Court this morning, the DA's office says. Judge John Garland ordered both held after they were unable to come up with the $10,000 bail he set. Both are due back in court on Oct. 30.
