The Energy Credit Union, 156 Spring St. in West Roxbury, was robbed of nearly $200,000 in a holdup shortly before 1 p.m. yesterday that investigators soon realized was staged by a teller and his brother, posing as a robber, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Read more.

A developer is getting ready to build four single family homes off Spring Street in West Roxbury, on a former railroad right of way on which steam locomotives once paused to pick up passengers at a small train stop before thundering across a bridge over Spring Street, hauling commuters from Dedham to Park Square in Boston. Empty bread shelves at one supermarket

Mary Ellen headed over to the West Roxbury Star Market this evening and, as you can see, was confronted with some pretty empty bread shelves in advance of Saturday's storm, which in the annals of New England storms, doesn't seem like it'll be a blockbuster or anything, but, you know, it's been like two years now since we've last gotten major snow, so God only knows how bad it'll get.

Sarah Wroblewski reports Boston got nearly two inches of rain out of tonight's storm, more than local storm drains and roads could handle in a short amount of time. Some trees came down after being hit by lightning. Read more.

An elderly man was hit by a vehicle on Spring Street in front of the Star Market in West Roxbury around 9 p.m. Because of the seriousness of his injuries, the homicide unit was called in. The driver remained on scene.

Wanted for credit-card theft

Maybe he really needed a Big Gulp: Dedham Police report they are looking for this guy, whom they say broke into several cars in Dedham on March 18, found a credit card in one, then headed down Spring Street in West Roxbury to the 7-Eleven there.

BPD is turning people aroun' so they don't drown on Spring Street in front of the Star Market, while State Police are turning people back on VFW Parkway near the West Roxbury Education Complex, because of the deep downpours this evening.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m., three vehicles collided where Centre Street veers off from Spring Street, sending four adults and a child to local hospitals. The crash may have happened when one of the drivers suffered some sort of medical emergency.

Baker Baker on Spring Street (at Baker) is closing for good at the end of the week. Owner Fran Kolenik says, though, she's looking at possible ways to keep making pies.

The news comes a couple weeks after the owner of the neighboring Kalembar Dune announced she's closing as well.

320 Cafe coming soon to Spring Street in West Roxbury

Joseph Adamo, a chef with more than 20 years experience at restaurants in Europe and the US, is looking to turn the old Spring Street Cafe on Spring Street at VFW Parkway into a new place called 320 Cafe, possibly in time for a fall opening. Read more.
