Councilor Yoon decides Boston needs an airline policy
By adamg on Thu, 12/11/2008 - 5:03pm
David Bernstein reports on how Sam Yoon, who is not a member of the council's aviation committee (of course the Boston City Council has an aviation committee), is trying to bar some Chinese airline from flying out of Logan, not because of any grand geopolitical concerns (which in any case are Chuck Turner's province), but because it owes money to some companies in some other state. Um, what?

Paging the FBI. Paging the FBI.
This is the same guy who
This is the same guy who didn't show up for committee hearings during his first year in office, and then later demanded that votes be delayed because he didn't know about the subjects that were discussed when he was... no one knows.
Wake up, Skippy...
Fung Wah Airlines!!
Bring it on! That's be a great population control initiative.
Melamine for in-flight snacks
Let's see ... a Chinese airline ignores US court orders, refuses to pay its bills for aircraft maintenance, stiffs airports on paying landing fees ...
And you don't understand why we shouldn't be in a rush to have it fly out of Logan? Beacuse we like melamine in our in-flight snacks?
The bigger mystery is why anyone is pushing this deal.
OK ...
Is this really a matter for the Boston City Council to be weighing in on? It's not like the city owns the airport or something.
Lorax
Who else is in touch with the peeps from day to day AND is in a position to jump up on a pedestal and get attention? Why, your city councilor! and mine!
They speaks for the peeps!
I hope that committee membership is not a requirement for an official to have an opinion about something, so no, Mr B, he oughtn't be muzzled just because he doesn't sport the proper badges on his council sash.
These reports don't say much but I'll agree that his complaint seems a little watery-thin.
But those who are complaining about Yoon are attacking him more for not having the proper /credentials/ to speak about the issue, rather than taking on his complaint by itself. Yeah, David B gets to that, but it's kinda mix-n-blended in there with the other issues.
I have a problem widdat... if you don't, then we can extrapolate the grousing to say that Bernstein is just a self-appointed political writer with only an invented authority to write about politics, and this here blog is even farther from having any basis to comment.
I say let the guy speak out but challenge him on the matter at hand, rather than alleging that he's got no right to raise an issue because he hasn't been "granted" the right to bring it up.
