Uneven plowing in Boston
By adamg on Thu, 02/15/2007 - 9:40am
I've got to hand it to the Boston DPW - they did an excellent job keeping our Roslindale street plowed and sanded (a salt/sand truck even came by again around 8 a.m.). Up in Allston, however, Harry Mattison provides photographic proof that the city didn't do such a hot job. What about where you are?
Would it surprise you to learn that the MBTA didn't do a very good job clearing away Green Line platforms?

Beacon Street in Brookline
Beacon Street in Brookline was kind of a hot mess. The sidewalks were the problem for me-- I nearly went flat on my back twice on my way to the T (the platform was coated a couple inches thick in ice-- way to shovel, T!).
Brighton was a mess
After stepping into a 6-inch deep ice water bath yesterday in Cleveland Circle, I noted that Brighton was still in horrible shape this morning. The sidewalks are a horror and the streets not much better. A couple inches of ice are pretty much everywhere thanks to everyone deciding to let the rain clear out the snow and then discovering that it just turned the snow into slush which is no iced over and then deciding to just leave it. I'm dreading my return to Malden this evening because things are always worse there. No one bothers to clean their sidewalks. Even the city doesn't.
Naturally, the Riverside station was a disaster. Everything was covered with ice with a thin layer of mud on top thanks to the T's "Dump Sand On It" solution to ice/snow management. Basically, everything is a muddy hockey rink.
What about downtown sidewalks?

No matter how bad it was, it could always be worse
Just think of Angela, whose description of getting her car out of her parking lot is just terrible:
