I just picked up an exceptional book on Boston's jazz history called The Boston Jazz Chronicles - Faces, Places, and Nightlife 1937 - 1962.
The few sections I've read so far are captivating and beautifully recreate this pivotal time in our fair city's transition from an economically depressed backwater to what it is today.

Just wondering if anyone else is attending the satellite broadcast of the DCI Drum Corps World Championships tonight at the Fenway Regal Cinema at 6:30pm? It's also being broadcast to other movie theaters via satellite around the Boston area.

Tickets are available online at http://www.dci.org/cinema

I'll be rooting for the home team - The Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps.
They've been around since 1940 and they rock!

At least, that's what the signs now say on the front of the old NuVo on Washington Street (across from the Dunkin' Donuts). According to EveryBlock, the new place got a restaurant license on Sept. 30, under the name Jazz Cafe.

So this newly uncovered Gusto sign seen today is probably just in the process of getting taken down:

Con much Gusto?
