The Boston Licensing Board recently voted to issue a warning to TD Garden for overcrowding in between two Garth Brooks concerts on Jan. 24.
The warning has no immediate effect on anything, but the board could use it as justification for more severe action should the Garden be charged with a similar offense in the future.
Boston Police report arresting Brandon Jones, 20, for allegedly trying to end an argument at Boston Garden last night with a knife.
The victim, a man in his early 20s, was taken to Mass. General and is expected to survive, police say.
Two minutes before the puck was supposed to drop tonight, Alex Carlson found herself way far away from her seat as Garden security got extra tough to prevent a recurrence of last night's stabbing at the Celtics game.
Stanley Staco and Deadspin report a man wearing a Rondo shirt stabbed another man wearing a Rondo shirt during a fight around 9:45 p.m. in Section 311.
TD Garden officials found themselves before the Boston Licensing Board today, apologizing for being helpless in the face of a force like Garth Brooks.
More specifically, they were there to answer a police citation for "failure to disperse patrons in a safe, timely and orderly fashion" on the night of Jan. 24. Police say the area around and under the Garden - in particular, North Station - was so full of people exiting one Garth Brooks concert and people waiting to enter the next that the result was pedestrian gridlock that kept innocent commuters just trying to get home on commuter rail from getting to their trains on time.
Alex Carlson spotted several people up on the roof of the Garden working on removing snow.
Mayor Walsh was the bearer of the bad news - which also includes school going right through June 30. He said school officials are still figuring out what to do if we get more snow days.
Walsh said the T has assured him T buses will be running and that trains will be running on at least a limited schedule.
Walsh made the school announcement after meeting with the heads of 10 school unions.
The Herald reports Star Market has agreed to build a mega-market in the $1-billion mixed-use development planned for that vacant space in front of the Garden and the train station.
Around 3:10 p.m. outside the Garden. David Finnerty reports the victim was stabbed in the chest, and that police may have a suspect in custody.
JB Parrett caught the sunrise over the Zakim and the Garden this morning.
The Boston Licensing Board decided yesterday the Boston Garden committed no violations that led to 86 people needing medical attention, a sexual assault and a beating the night of a June 25 concert by Swedish DJ Avicii.
As Boston Garden officials pledged to do more to prevent another EDM "mass casualty incident," public-safety officials said they had to deal with more than just several dozen chemically impaired show goers before a June 25 Avicii concert.
TD Garden officials said today they tripled the number of ambulances they normally have on hand for a concert and added extra security guards and other staffers to deal with what they knew could be an onslaught of pre-gamed ticketholders streaming in for a June 25 concert by the Swedish EDM DJ.
City Councilor Steve Murphy wants the Garden, the House of Blues and other concert venues to explain what they're doing to prevent a recurrence of incidents involving young concert goers collapsing from drug use.
After last night's meltdown at the Garden, Tim Bergling, a.k.a. Avicii, tweeted:
Just hearing the awful news abt tonight. Its a terrible thing, I rly hope everyone is ok! My thoughts go to those affected & their families.
It might be a familiar refrain for the Swedish DJ at this point, since this sort of thing seems to happen at least once a year at one of his concerts:
UPDATE: The Globe reports 36 people were transported to local hospitals while another 50 were treated at the scene.
Something like 30 people treated or taken away in ambulances from an Avicii concert at the Garden tonight due to excessive alcohol/drug consumption, per Stanley Staco and O'Ryan Johnson.
The Boston Business Journal reports outgoing Mayor Tom Menino has agreed to designate the area in front of the Boston Garden "blighted" so that he can give the Garden and developers a multimillion tax break for developing in such a horrid area - and the right to make one of their proposed towers 45 stories, to be filled with luxury residential units.
The Boston Business Journal reports the owners of the Garden have asked the BRA for Liberty Mutual-style tax breaks because damnit, they deserve it the fact they've failed to build anything on what is now a parking lot, a high water table on land near the Charles and Harbor and the presence of the Green and Orangle Lines means the land is blighted and needs big tax breaks.
