Neponset Circle
Boston Police report a fight that broke out around 2 a.m. at Ups and Downs, 469 Neponset Ave., sent one person to Boston Medical Center and six more to Carney Hospital with stab wounds.
The Boston Licensing Board suspended Ups n' Downs liquor license for three days because of a massive brawl at closing time that required every police officer in District C-11 and left one bar worker smashed in the face with a bottle.
The board also issued suspended seven-day license suspensions for two other outbreaks of violence; if the Neponset Circle bar, officially known as Upstairs Downstairs, gets in any more trouble over the next six months, those suspensions will go into effect.
UPDATE: The licensing board suspended the bar's liquor license for three days; took no action on rolling back closing time.
A series of recent incidents at the Upstairs Downstairs bar at Neponset Circle is putting the establishment's 2 a.m. closing time at risk.
Whalehead King notes the Neponset Circle Christmas tree is already in place:
... Office pools have already started to pick the day a placard will be planted next to this tannenbaum. What will the sign say? That is subject for another pool but most bets rest on variations of "Season's Greetings from Mayor Thomas M. Menino." Those are words that warm the heart like cocoa heated a few degrees above tepid. Season's Greetings!
Boston Police report workers at the Ups and Downs Bar, 469 Neponset Ave., in Dorchester, called around 1 this morning to complain a guy was outside starting fights and trying to punch out car windows.
When officers looked over at the suspect, the suspect began punching a window on a car. As officers approached, the suspect walked towards them, fell over a snow bank and into the side of a car. When officers helped the suspect to his feet, the suspect began yelling and screaming at the officers. Moreover, the suspect attempted to punch the officers.
Ryan Claire, 27, of Boston, was then arrested and charged with resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer and disorderly conduct.
