The Boston Licensing Board today approved a packie license for a proposed gourmet food shop in the block of stores next to the Boston College Green Line stop over the strong objections of both the school - which serves beer and wine at on-campus events, including football games - and Secretary of State Bill Galvin, who lives just up the street. A Commonwealth Avenue resident whose condo backs up to the Newbury Street location of yet another proposed dispensary says the idea goes against city zoning codes and would help diminish the neighborhood and his property in so many ways, including through the generation of "noxious odors." The Zoning Board of Appeal today approved plans to replace a UPS store at 2193-2201 Commonwealth Ave. with a 900-square-foot "provision" market focusing on high-end beverages - and kosher wines - and prepared gourmet foods, aimed not at the thousands of underage Boston College students right across the street but at nearby residents looking for a more convenient place to stock up than Cleveland Circle or Brookline. Transit Police report that around 3 this morning, somebody in a 2015 Hyundai drove onto the inbound Green Line tracks at Packards Corner, and then, realizing he couldn't escape the clutches of the sarlacc pit there, got out with a pal and ran away. "TPD Detectives to follow up," police say. "Vehicle towed from scene, no damage to tracks."
The Supreme Judicial Court ruled today that Leon Robinson got a fair trial on charges he gunned down Recardo Robinson in Robinson's Commonwealth Avenue barbershop during an argument in 2001, which means Robinson will spend the rest of his life in prison. Read more.

A concerned citizen filed a 311 complaint this morning about a rat that is both injured and blind and yet still managing to scare passersby on Commonwealth Avenue near Exeter Street in the Back Bay:
Rat seems to have been in a fight and is blind. Has been wandering in this area all morning scaring people and pets.
