Doors open on the wrong side on the Red Line

A power cable that caught fire at Charles/MGH around 1:40 a.m. meant no service between Kendall Square and Park Street first thing this morning. The T announced around 7 a.m. that repairs had been finished and service was resuming, but with "residual" delays.

Train signals ignored in Cambridge

Josh Wardell watched in amazement this morning as the warning lights came on where the train tracks cross Main Street in Cambridge and drivers said "screw that" and just kept on going.

Authorities say a 70-year-old Framingham man fired from his job at a Cambridge health insurer returned around 7:45 this morning and began shooting at the man he blamed for his firing when he spotted the man outside.

But Kermit Hooks Jr.'s intended victim used his suitcase to shield himself outside Senior Whole Health, 58 Charles St.; he is expected to survive getting facial injuries, Cambridge Police and the Middlesex County District Attorney's office say.

After shooting his victim, 58, Hooks turned his gun on himself and fatally shot himself, police and the DA's office report.

The T is warning of "moderate" delays in both directions on the Red Line due to a track problem between Kendall Square and Charles/MGH (which would be, what, the Longfellow?).

UPDATE: At 8:20, the T reported delays southbound due to a train that met its maker at Alewife.

Cambridge Police report somebody was shot as the Caribbean parade wound down in Kendall Square this afternoon.

The victim, a 25-year-old woman from Roxbury, was shot in the leg but is expected to survive, police say. Read more.

Wanted for Kendall Square indecent assault

Cambridge Police report a woman exiting the Kendall Square Red Line station around 7:20 a.m. yesterday was approached by a man who, after a brief conversation, "grabbed the woman's buttocks."

The female yelled then punched the suspect in the face. This seemed to startle the male who then walked away.

He's described as black, medium build with dreadlocks and wearing a red shirt and black pants.

Birds of prey in Cambridge

The other day, LadyLazerJ spotted these two hawks perched outside her office on Hampshire Street in Kendall Square - where they stayed for about two hours.

They were seriously pissing off the blue jays.
