A roving UHub photographer sent in these two photos from Cambridge squares this week - on the left, Kendall Square, on the right, Central Square - and wonders why one gets the ultimate plow and shovel job and the other doesn't. The Central Square photo is from Monday, but the photographer reports there are still mounds and mounds of snow there today.
Cambridge Day reports MIT has agreed to lease space at One Broadway to Roche Bros. for one of its fun-sized Brothers Marketplace stores.

An outbound Red Line train was put out of its misery at Kendall Square and now there are "minor" delays on the line, the MBTA reports.
Would it surprise you terribly to learn that the Red Line is having signal problems again? This time they're at Kendall/MIT. The MBTA says the delays, on the southbound side, are "minor," but some riders beg to differ:

Neal Doyle reports Emma's, 40 Hampshire St., is closing for good next week. The South End outlet, he adds, is staying open.
Boston Restaurant Talk has some background on Emma's, which opened in 1960 in Huron Village, then moved to Kendall Square in 2000.
The Cambridge Fire Department reports it will be doing training - complete with simulated smoke - at One Kendall Square, Cardinal Medeiros Ave. and Binney St. between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. tomorrow (and will then repeat the training on Dec. 15, 19 and 20):
The exercise will include multiple fire trucks staging in the loading dock areas. This simulated smoke will likely be seen by people in the vicinity but will not be a hindrance to the public or traffic.
