Every day, it seems like people look at the empty toilet-paper and chicken shelves at the Dedham Stop & Shop and go "Oh, no, what can I buy instead?!?" Today, the store was completely out of ketchup. Who knew ketchup was going to be in such high demand during an apocalypse?
The store was also completely out of frozen pizzas, except a few flatbread pizzas and "pizza" made out of cauliflower, which pretty much proves nobody wants that stuff.
Stop & Shop says it's trimming hours at most of its stores on Monday and cancelling its pickup service so that employees can spend more time trying to re-stock shelves that keep getting stripped bare of things such as, well, increasingly almost everything. Read more.

The BPDA board yesterday approved plans by Stop & Shop to transform its 10.6-acre parcel on Everett Street in Allston into an 868-unit complex with apartments, condos and a replacement for the supermarket that now sits there. Read more.

Roving UHub photographer George Carroll Jr. reports that at 11:50 p.m. on Thursday, in the cold and rain, he spotted Geoff Applegate maintaining a solo picket outside the Stop & Shop on East Broadway in South Boston. The store wasn't open to the public but, Applegate told Carroll, he was there in case the company tried making a delivery.

On strike on Truman Parkway in Hyde Park.
At 1 p.m., the United Food & Commercial Workers declared a strike against Stop & Shop across New England. As workers walked out of stores, managers, with nobody left to do any work except for Marty the Spill Finding Robot, shut the stores and associated gas stations. Read more.
The Dedham Stop & Shop always seem to have one of the largest selections of food that's kosher for Passover outside of Harvard Street in Brookline - and not just the traditional stuff like matzoh and gefilte fish. Among the selections this year: Roasted seaweed snacks.
Police in Stoughton are looking for a guy who managed to sneak 22 or so bottles of Tide out of the local Stop & Shop without paying for them.

The Washington Post reports a googly-eyed robot named Marty is now roaming the Stop & Shop in Seekonk, reporting spills and other problems - via a control center in the Philippines - at least until somebody knocks Mr. Smartypants over in a fit of rage or it kills itself like that robot in DC because people keep calling it Mahty or because it quickly despairs of its spending its life searching for fallen price signs.
