The Supreme Judicial Court will hear arguments Dec. 20 on whether it should force the legislature to put the same-sex marriage issue on the ballot. Mass. Marrier has more.

Note: Mitt Romney signed onto the petition as a Massachusetts resident, not governor - who knew he still lived here?

Jim Conley wonders if, now that the debate over gay marriage is tabled, anti-gay religious leaders and the media will turn their attention to the hundreds of thousands of Massachusetts residents below the poverty line:

... Silly me, like there'll be cameras showing up to cover poverty in Massachusetts. Why report on the hardship faced by one-fifth of Massachusetts' residents when you can cover some nut job in a froth over "Adam and Steve"?

It's Constitutional Convention day at the State House again, and the legislators might decide whether to let voters vote on same-sex marriage - or just adjourn and let the issue die.

Mass. Marrier analyzes the situation:

... The solution is simple and needs to be at the top of the agenda for the new legislature -- reform the ballot-initiative process to return it to its original noble purpose, as a check against legislative errors of judgment.

Wasn't that special? Legislative leaders postponed the remainder of the Constitutional Convention until two days after the election. Among the issues: Gay marriage, natch. Mass. Marrier details what could happen - there's even a proposal to both ban future marriages and annul the ones that have already happened.

Cranky says he doesn't have anything against gay marriage, but still wonders why recent features in the Globe magazine seem to feature gay couples:

... There is a lot more to worry about in this country, and I'm certainly against any right-wing efforts to amend the constitution to outlaw gay marriage.

The state Legislature put off any action on a proposed gay-marriage ballot question until Nov. 9, two convenient days after the state elections.

Mass. court: AG did not err in approving gay marriage question.

However, Blue Mass. Group notes this does not mean the Legislature has to put the question on the ballot as part of a constitutional convention that starts Wednesday (also click on the Blue Mass. Group link for a copy of the ruling):

By saying that civilization rests on the principal of marriage being between one man and one woman, is Mitt Romney saying his great-grandfather was uncivilized?
