Occupy Plastic Bags

Plastic Bag Lady

The Plastic Bag Lady of Park Street is in touch with the zeitgeist, based on the sign she was wearing on her back today.

I thought she was Pigeon Lady.

I've never talked to anybody about her and called her Plastic Bag Lady because while she's not always surrounded by pigeons, she is mostly covered in plastic bags.

Maybe, rather than make up cartoon names, one of you could actually speak to her and ask her name.
I am unclear what point you wish to make in publishing a photo and mocking her from your warm indoor chair.

Most people know Spare Change Guy's real name but don't go around calling him John Bubier. Everyone knows who you mean when you say Spare Change Guy. Just like everyone knows Louie the Tricycle Guy. God knows if Louie is even his real name, but whether it is or is not, everyone knows "Tricycle Guy".

Justify it all you want, 'BostonUrbEx' (or should I now call you 'Privileged Person'), but labeling people in such a way is still an act of power based on privilege that diminishes esteem and overall humanity and ultimately disenfranchises(e.g. - 'smelly hippies', 'illegals', etc.)

Get over yourself, will you?

Every known living thing is classified in one manner or another, but likely many. (Even inanimate things are classified.) We are nothing if not what can be observed of us, what details make us similar or different to others. And while you make wild assumptions about BostonUrbEx ("privileged person," really?), our dear friend Adam has simply made an observation and classification based on a visible physical detail. At least she has some sort of identity. You're just another person making noise without a name.

He's hardly disenfranchised, and his tricycle enables him the free movement of any other cyclist.

He's actually a fairly privileged person if you have ever taken time to chat with him.

Finally, a coherent thought from an Okkupier! I wonder if Betti Warren (D-Oklahoma and Harvard Law) "created the intellectual foundation" for what's written on the box?

Keep on banging that drum for the elites man. Maybe they'll reward you by making you top slave some day.

Look, it's not that she's homeless--it's that she sits there covered with plastic bags, disrupting foot traffic at the Park Street head house, with multiple signs covered in a bizarre and amusing gibberish. The vast majority of homeless people don't behave that way. When somebody intentionally makes a spectacle of herself (it's part of her fundraising schtick, after all), that makes her fair game for commentary in my book.

As to your overall tone, I hope your morning dose of self-righteousness allows you to forget, even if only for a moment, that as an American, a tax-payer, and a consumer, you're every bit as guilty for her being there as everybody else is.

Who's drum do YOU beat? Unless you're living in a mountain-top commune somewhere and devoting your entire life to charity, you're shoveling the same stuff the rest of us are--perhaps you shouldn't be so smug about it.

I don't think I need to tell you that he's sitting pretty with a nice pension thanks to those that think public servants deserve it.

OFISH sucked from the government teat his whole life. He's just bitter others might have the same opportunity, and he might be asked to support some of that in taxes.

Once again...where did people start getting the idea that UH was Pawtucket for the Herald comments section?

Because if you're just down here to work on material in front of a smaller crowd, I've got news for you. You're ready for the majors right now. In fact, Howie Carr's got to retire some day...just keep sitting by that phone and dreaming that dream.

Go look up what happens to the apologists and servants of the wealthy when revolution comes around.

Start with the fate of the less-wealthy Tories and the hangers-on for the aristocracy during the French Revolution.

Hint: the wealthy will protect themselves, not you.
