Was a Dune fan in charge of naming Mission Hill streets?

On Mission Hill, Station Street divides Gurney and Halleck streets.
Or maybe we had a Nabsico cookie fan naming streets, at least based on one intersection in Mattapan, where Lorna and Doone intersect.

It may go the other way
I wonder if Frank Herbert ever spent time in that area? I know he was inspired by working as a ranger in a dune environment.
That might explain the "SW Corridor" on the map ...
Dedicated pathway for Sand Worms? Very thoughtful.
I don't think so
Sandworms don't like rock so I think they'd be limited to the Backbay by all the puddingstone.
Now if you want to allege that the Cape Cod Canal was actually made to keep sandworms trapped on the sandy environs of the Cape, then I'd be interested in your newsletter.
Lorna & Doone
I always assumed that the planner in Mattapan was a fan of 19th century English historical romances.
The cookie box
I guess the BFD didn't read the classics, they always called it the cookie box. On the other hand, the Three Stooges had a funny about it.
"Hi, Lorna, how ya doin?"
"Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk."
A while back there was an airplane crash there. Not so funny. Pilot, his wife and daughter were killed.
the area where I grew up in NJ
the street names included... wareham, avon, roxbury, medford, andover...
The state where I grew up...
had a Dorchester and Worcester - and these were county names. It's that English thing.
When I lived in Atlanta
When I lived in Atlanta, we had a Merry Lane and it crossed Christmas Lane, and I had a friend that lived at Merry @ Christmas Lane
Another subdivision had all women's names.. Linda, Karen, Jennifer, Heather... rumor was the developer named the streets after all his mistresses.
I'll agree to half of that
Gurney and Halleck were laid out in the 1870s, before Dune.
Lorna and Doone, on the other hand, came after the western. Lorna predates the cookie (barely) and Doone was renamed from Marie after the cookie came out, so my gut is that someone had a sweet tooth either in Mattapan or at the board that names streets.
Western?
What western?
The old West
Of England is what I obviously meant.
Yes, 17th Century Somerset was a bit different than 19th Century Colorado, but still...
