A Mattapan man was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing Friday on charges he raped and beat a woman so badly police found her covered in blood and spitting up blood clots early Sunday morning, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Read more.

A federal judge last week sentenced the owner of Economy Plumbing and Heating Supply on Morton Street in Mattapan to four months in prison, a year of probation, restitution of $2.96 million and a fine of $200,000 for his guilty plea to four counts of filing false tax returns, the US Attorney's office reports. The Boston Licensing Board decides tomorrow whether to let the Domino's at 1514 Blue Hill Ave. extend its closing time to 2 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 3 a.m. Thursday through Saturday - with delivery only via car and payment only by credit card. Read more.

The MBTA board today approved a $54-million plan to replace the diesel-powered trains on the Fairmount Line with more climate-friendly battery-operated cars within four years, which could mean almost subway-like train frequency - and some relief for Readville residents who live near the yard where diesels now loudly vibrate, hum - and have their horns blared - into the early morning hours. Boston Police report they are investigating the death of three dogs found in a U-Haul at 69 Edgewater Dr. in Mattapan around 9 p.m. on Tuesday as a case of animal abuse.

Police say anybody with information on how the dogs wound up in the truck can contact detectives at 617-343-5607 or the anonymous tip line by calling 800-494-TIPS or by texting TIP to CRIME (27463).
