Short circuit sparks two-alarm fire in Dorchester store block

The Boston Fire Department reports a basement short circuit started a fire on Welles Avenue overnight that caused an estimated $300,000 in damage to a block of stores.

Firefighters responded at 1:25 a.m. to 84-88 Welles Avenue, home to a beauty salon and a barbershop and an empty storefront.

There were no injuries.
