Boston Restaurant Talk reports An Tain on India Street is shutting down, its liquor license to be sold to some Seaport hotel.

The Seaport is catered for people who like to wait in line for an hour in half for a free scoop of ice cream at Ben & Jerry's on free cone day

I go every year if I can to pay homage to my hometown. But I don't and wouldn't wait for 90 minutes.

How about "The Seaport is catered for people who think they have money and like to tell people that they're Bostonians because Ben Affleck pretended to be a working-class tough one in a movie 22 years ago?"

Of course if you are lamenting the fact that the local bar license is going to a new place in Seaport, then direct that ire at the legislators that still require this antiquated transfer procedure because of arbitrary caps on the number of licenses available.

Short of releasing a city planning document of what the city wants (which they did), there isn't much the Mayor of Boston can do about the MBTA, a state agency.

The Mayor has no legal authority over the MBTA. But he's probably the 2nd most powerful politician in the state by way of influence. If Marty put all of Boston's government and PR system behind shaming Beacon Hill and demanding better service, perhaps more would get fixed.

And we we all know the arbitrary cap won’t be going anywhere anytime soon, for many reasons. This is a city that just denied a fast food restaurant in part because of “unhealthy food”-because you know, we need saving from ourselves. And a state that just took 20 years to complete a voter-mandated 3 year plan to lower the income tax.

Unfortunately, the final say is up to the state legislature, which decided it didn't care what Boston wanted.
