Dorchester state rep won't seek re-election this year

State Rep. Dan Cullinane (D - Dorchester) announced this morning he won't run for re-election this fall.

Cullinane said that "taking a step back from the demands of public life" is the right thing for him and his family right now. He and his wife Emily have two young children - William, 2, and Isabel, 8 months.

His 12th Suffolk district includes parts of Dorchester, Mattapan, Hyde Park and Milton.

FYI, you have to live in the district for a year before election day in order to run as a candidate.

He represent the 12th District and has since 2013.
How on earth did we end up with this gerrymandered system of Districts in Boston?
