State shuts Dorchester Bay boat launch for lack of social distancing, too much boozing

The Dorchester Reporter reports DCR has Jersey-barriered a pebbly stretch of the shoreline along Dorchester Bay off Morrissey Boulevard because too many of the people using it to launch small boats and Jet Skis were failing to observe basic Covid-19 social-distancing requirements and because too many people were using it as a place to drink and weren't cleaning up after themselves.

“Neighbors are really trying to just make it safe over there by requesting the dusk to dawn hours and more police. A lot of neighbors want it to stay open but just enforce the hours.”

So, instead of backing up and enforcing reasonable use, they shut down everything. Sigh

I'm not sure how this would hold up to any court challenge. The law generally upholds access to the shore and public water. There's some leeway, I'm sure, for the public health emergency, but...

Lose-lose. Idiots in the public. Idiots in enforcement. And the reasonable folks lose out.

This strikes me as DCR being sick of dealing with both the selfish behavior and the local whining. They're sending all sides to sit in time-out. It might not hold up in court, but by the time any challenge is brought it will be too cold to matter anyway.

If you can carry your surfboard there some way other than in a car, give it a try. It's not far from Savin Hill station.

The slime on the rocks in the photo is an excellent indication of the condition of the harbor at the time.

Speaking of the harbor - $5 billion to clean up the harbor. It engendered aquatic life in the water, sparked development, and brought people back to the water.

However, the state has done all it can to hinder access to people at M Street and now Morrissey Boulevard. You can't go to Castle Island too late at night, even though you used to be able too. Parking at Nantasket (Outside the harbor) has been hindered.

So, remember, you pay for it, but you can't use it. Nice job DCR. You have continued the tough guy but still minor league attitude of the MDC you just changed the initials.

A BU reseracher recently found Vitamin D reduces the risk of Covid by 54%. Sunlight activates Vitamin D in the body. Rather than encourage outdoor recreation in the sun, the state prevents it? This sounds about right for MA. It's interesting that the rioting and looting in Boston on May 31, at the height of the scare, has never been declared a "superspreader" event. This has long been a political, not scientific crusade.

No, that's not what it found. It found a correlation between higher 25-hydroxyvitamin D blood levels and lower covid positivity. Takes like yours are what results from not reading beyond the headlines of a Herald article, and not understanding that correlation != causation. I guess it's forgiveable, though, since this "researcher" is a vitamin D stan and used the word "risk" inappropriately.
