Citizen complaint of the day: MBTA yard in Readville driving people nuts again

An annoyed citizen in Hyde Park files a 311 complaint about the overnight noise from the MBTA's Readville commuter-rail yard:

Noise from Readville train yard from idling diesel engines. Not only is the overnight noise incredibly disruptive for miles from the train yard but in a time when Boston is taking green initiatives I can’t believe that we are burning diesel overnight and the city hasn’t moved to installing APUs in its trains so we aren’t burning unnecessary fossil fuels and expelling carbon emissions as well as throwing dollars into the incinerator. Eve more I can’t believe that a sound wall has never been installed for the sheer noise alone when the yard exists in a relatively residential area.

The city say it's forwarded the note to the MBTA, since the T, not the city, owns the yard and the locomotives.

The train yard has existed for over a century. I love the part where the city says it forwarded the note to the MBTA. The MBTA isn't the one building condos adjacent to the rail yard. Cant wait for those folks to move there and complain too.

Yet another argument for electrification, as if we didn't have enough already

Does that mean the Boston Police have no jurisdiction on MBTA property?

Boston Police can respond anywhere in the city, but if something happens on MBTA property (which includes on buses and trains), if they get there first, they will handle any immediate stuff, then hand over any investigation to Transit Police.

Good luck with that. The fireworks at 4 a.m. and loud thumping bass street DJ heard from miles was ignored in still is by 311. Goes on every Fri. Sat, and Sun without fail. What good are laws if they are not enforced and laughed at?? I'm gonna go outside with a concrete blaster at 3 a.m. and see how fast people stop turning a blind eye.

Be sure to document your noise terrorism experiment and put it on TikTok.

They also idle trains at North Station a whole lot more than seems necessary.

I live next to bus yard at Forest Hills. I must say they are quieter than the all night scooter traffic and weekend nightclubs til 5 a.m. i guess City Hall realizes it doesn't know what to do. Obviously by the fact that it continues victoriously over the joke of what is the municipal noise ordinance. Can't argue with me.

Case noted. APCC doesn't actually do anything.
