Citizen complaint of the day: Roxbury corner needs more coyotes
By adamg on Mon, 10/16/2023 - 11:45am
A concerned citizen files a 311 complaint about the situation at Bartlett Street and Lambert Avenue in Roxbury now that the coyotes that used to live there have moved on:
The number of rats on Lambert Ave has drastically increased. I'm not sure if it is related to the construction across the street. There used to be coyotes in that lot and I believe they kept the population under control. Last night taking the trash out multiple rats jumped out of the bins when we tried to move them. We kicked the rest of the bins before moving them and there were at least 12 rats.

I'd prefer cats for this
I'd prefer cats for this issue if better cleaning/disposal solutions were not available.
cats are not native. And I
cats are not native. And I think it is dishonest to believe that there a cats that would prefer to winter out side.
I agree, probably not cats...
...although I've known farm cats who stay outside year-round. What you really want are dogs! Check out Rat Hunting Dogs of NYC on youtube, or there are PLENTY of other videos. TRIGGER WARNING, lots of rats, alive and dead. But those doggoes are amazing!
Construction and food (trash) availability
are probably more relevant, but I would also support adding more coyotes just on principle.
