If I eat there when it becomes a Taco Bell I will end up with far worse regrets than I ever generated there when it was Great Scott.
Taco Bell, the New McDuh?
There's already one in Coolidge Corner, a short 66 bus ride or a 15 minute walk from Allston Village. Like some years back when there were three McDuhs in or an easy walk/ride from the Village.
Instead of a Taco Bell, why not a Korean preppy/yuppie joint with $20 a bowl noodles? The area could sure use one of those!
And another one on the BU campus
The block between Amory and St. Paul features a Taco Bell Cantina between the Target and a Chipotle. That whole block is really quite a statement about Boston in the '20s.
I frequent that area because
I frequent that area because I'm a regular at B.U. hockey games and always go the Sunset Cantina beforehand. I'm thankful the Sunset is up and running, especially after T's Pub shut down. The stretch from the B.U. bridge to Harvard Ave., with the arena, the Paradise, the various restaurants and shops, the student foot traffic, etc., is generally lively and safe, we should feel fortunate.

Of the four corners
Of the four corners of that intersection, the old Great Scott one seems the least likely for a Taco Bell...I pity the folks living in that building if this goes through.
And here I thought
With the Stingray/O'Brien's building changing hands (don't kid yourself that O'Brien's will survive the transition if Stingray won't), I found it sad that the old Great Scott location was still empty after all these years, and briefly mused that O'Brien's would step up into Great Scott like so many bands that played O'Brien's first. I guess the landlord was right: they could find a better paying tenant by waiting.
Maybe the punks will have the last laugh, but I doubt it.
OK, I know I'm being dramatic: The Sil changed hands successfully and is doing events now. The Model is still shitty. Allston is not all dead, it's just different. And the clubs are closing because nobody cares about rock music except the bands playing it these days. You can blame capitalism and clear channel for that, maybe, but if tastes change they change.

I was surprised when my kids informed me that all their high school friends mostly listen to rap.
Sad but true!
Ask yourself what current rock band could start a riot at the hatch shell. For what it's worth, I'm regularly in the bands liking and playing it, and it sucks to see bits of the things I like leaving popular culture, but it also makes space for more experimentation with the form and takes away all pressure to 'make it'.

Instead of a tacky Taco Bell spinoff, can it become, say, this neighborhood's version of Buff's Pub, which is constantly busy? Or the late, lamented T's Pub? Gotta have wings and TV's and cater to the sports bro crowd.

Guessing not, because large chains are likely the only ones who can afford the rents these days.
I ride for Buff's
Man, Buff's would absolutely kill it there. We have to stop the bleed of bars that serve mostly good beer, and good-to-excellent bar food. Hopefully we can find a way to do so in the current real estate market.

I live about a one minute walk from Buff's, I'm very lucky.
