311 complaint of the day: Pop, pop, pop all night long as unignited gas keeps exploding in a busted Charlestown gas lamp
By adamg on Sun, 10/13/2024 - 1:20pm
A concerned resident files a 311 complaint about a broken gas lamp on Essex Street in Charlestown:
The PROBLEM IS SERIOUS IT IS SHUTTING OFF AND THEN TRYING TO TRYING TO IGNITE AND IS MAKING A POPPING SOUND ALL NIGHT AS THE GAS IS EXPLODING EACH TIME IT TRYS !!! Because there is no mantles to ignite It is dangerous with that happening ! Please fix before something serious happens. Or shut it off completely! It has been over a week.

Zero accountability why would
Zero accountability why would they? If it was a private company managing them, they’d be there on the spot .
Essex Street Charlestown
Deserves its' own 311 given so much posting activity.
I recant ...
Someone posted a 311 in Charlestown re: Trump sticker on a parking sign, reporting it as, "damaged sign, sexual predator sticker on it."
I am humbled by your greatness!
Essex St in Charlestown is where sat nav …
… will bring you no matter if you tell a driver Boston and specify Chinatown.
Don’t know what ?11 to dial for that issue.
Private company accountability?
LOL
You obviously haven't tried to report sidewalk gas leaks to National Grid.
I'm all for preserving
I'm all for preserving historical stuff in the city, but it's time for these gas lamps to go. They're absolutely awful for the environment. And they serve no aesthetic purpose. Replacing the innards with an electric replica would look more authentic than all the visible wires needed for the gas lights with electric starters.
