South Boston to get high-end 'Indian inspired' cuisine

The Boston Licensing Board today approved a plan by the owners of the now defunct Worden Hall, 22-26 West Broadway in South Boston, to sell their liquor license to the owner of an Indian restaurant in Norwood, who plans to open up shop in the space.

Swati Patel's Kahaani on Broadway will feature South Boston's first "Indian inspired food in a first-class environment," her attorney, Tom Miller, told the board at a hearing yesterday, further defining the food as "a modern fusion" of American and Indian foods.

Patel and her family have operated an Indian restaurant called 1947 on Rte. 1 in Norwood for the past few years, Miller said.

Miller said the new restaurant will need only "minor cosmetic updates" before it opens with 144 seats inside and 16 on a seasonal patio, with closing times of 2 a.m. inside and 11 p.m. outside.

At the hearing, an aide to City Councilor Ed Flynn expressed the councilor's support. Nobody spoke against the proposal.
