The shelves look too nice and retail-ish to be a tax office. Real estate agency maybe. I'm hoping for baby stuff store. You can't go wrong with that in the square. If only the Walking Store would move from its hideous third-world accomodations in Copley Square to The Square.
I was told by the fellow in the cheese store next door that it's going to be a baby-carriage design studio - they won't actually be selling anything... I guess it's better than the place being empty.
A voyuristic baby stroller design studio? I can't decide if this is good or bad because I can't decide what to make of it. Its better than an empty store, I suppose. Will I be allowed to go inside and watch him/her/them design baby strollers? Will there be a fee for this? Will they design me a baby stroller? Will it be manufactured by Oompa-Loompas in the basement? Will there be songs? Does this fit in with "the rent is too high" wrap that that block has been getting?
I will have him construct a stroller for me to ride around in before I pay to have one built for my dog or cat, of which, sadly, I have none. I welcome this stroller mogul to the square and, like the last poster, ask only that he buy lots and lots of cheese.
I walked by today, didn't take a photo, though, because the guy was right there and I didn't want him to feel like a caged ape or something, even though, um, dude, hello, you're putting your studio right in a storefront ...
Nice wooden floors, minimalist shelf things, looks like some sort of well, trendy South End minimalist boutique. Only without anything in it except the shelf/cube thingmabobs, since he's probably not finished.
Good for him that he's willing to pay whatever the rents are there so he can just walk out his back door and impress his clients with the cute little courtyard as they whip out notepads and compare stroller designs over sushi from the Japanese place, but I still can't help but wondering how this makes a little retail area like Roslindale Square better - aside from the obvious, i.e., it's one less empty storefront.
I guess the point is that it's not retail. No, you won't be able to go in there for anything. I guess you'd be able to stare through the window and watch the artiste at work. Until that makes you feel strange.
It's interesting to speculate about how this fits in with the 'rent's too high' theme of the block. One would have to guess that this guy pulls in more dough than, let's say, a florist. I guess he can put his studio wherever he wants, and from that perspective it's not a bad choice. I'd certainly rather be there than where I am now.
In terms of what it brings to the street, it's better than the empty it's been, and he'll undoubtedly be a major client of his neighbors. I welcome anybody who helps maintain my source of cheese.
I like Robyns. It may not be glitsy, but its a good family place and if I were going to watch a game, have a beer, and eat some solid food that's where I'd go.
That said, if the guy who runs Ole in Inman Sq. wants to open a place in the Square I will not object in the least.
No, sorry. I re-read what I wrote and it could be read that way. I was making the point that even though I like Robyns because its not all yuppied up, I'd still be glad if the owner of Ole, one of my fav. yuppster restaurants, would open up a restaurant in the villiage.

I heard
It's going to be a stroller store, a la Magic Beans.
birch street addition
They look to be setting up a lot of desks and bookcases... could it be a temporary tax office? Maybe a real estate office?

Doesn't look like a stroller store
If the office furniture is any indication as to what that office space is going to be then It looks like a potential real estate, or tax office.
I will be extremely dissapointed
new store

I heard the same thing yesterday.
It's just going to be some guy's working studio. He likes the light and the courtyard. Can't say I blame him.
Huh?

Dogjoggers
They will make a special stroller for you, Bostonian! Just the right size for your dog or cat!
Neither K-9 Nor Feline for Me

Nice looking space

Voyeuristic? Depends on your point of view...

New restaurant coming in
Where El Rancho used to be on Washington. Square Corner Cafe.
hopefully this restaraunt
hopefully this restaraunt isn't a dump like Robyns. Please let it have some value

Is the new restaraunt really going to be the same owners as OLE?
Is that legit? Are the owners of Ole opening up that restaraunt?
If so that would be great!!
Sorry
