the city of cambridge street department doesn't have to follow the rules either. any one else that parks illegally or runs the meter over by 5 minutes gets ticketed by the parking nazi around the Courthouse and the Galleria. when trying to leave the city garage onto a one-way street, no one else can turn right because these clowns consistently park illegally. lazy? privileged? go park in the garage or at a meter like everyone else instead of blocking traffic at rush hour. (picture)
Where do they expect the workers to park? Maybe they should post the street '' employee parking only'' , or make up some sort of window sticker permit zone. There are all sorts of parking shenanigans in the naked city, this is just one of them. The old ' old parking ticket on the windshield ' trick is just a circumvention. Imagine the outcry if the street was posted '' jail employee parking only '' . We are not living in a perfect world here , everybody is looking for an edge.
They are out of options because no MBTA station exists within 500 feet of the jail. There is no MBTA commuter rail station within 750 feet of the jail.
Those poor screws.
Isn't it horrible when everyone else in this city gets free parking. These guardians of society need to bend the rules to get there cars close to their place of work.
I know just the other day Mayor Menino handed me a voucher for $4,000 of merchandise from Stop & Shop and Neiman Marcus to make up for what I had to pay last year on the limited number of days where I had to park at my job.
Why we need to replace police details with hired flag workers. It will save the city millions and help to create needed jobs, i really hope topics like this are brought up during the Mayors race!
Deval raised the issue for state highway construction. He encouraged cities and towns to reconsider their police detail policies at that time. I doubt any did.
I think most police details could be replaced by absolutely nothing. You don't need any kind of flagger every time NStar opens a manhole on a quiet residential street.
Public workers need to eat Patarick's and Menino's "dog food" of green policies to make parking more scarce and overpriced so that they walk, bicycle, or take the T to jobs - just like everybody else. They are close to Science Park, Charles/MGH, and North station T/rail stations, plus a shitload of Hubway bikes at North Station. Its not free, however like parking for MBTA workers.
The parking ticket on the windshield has been in use for decades. Parking officers are in on the free parking. Where did the blank tickets come from, but a traffic officer? Making the area 2 hour parking changes nothing. After people forget this story, workers will be back parking there with tickets on the windshield, and parking officers back to ignoring them.
It is a unwritten rule that most metermaids (or traffic cops) will not write a new ticket if they already have a ticket on their windsheild. Most never check the date on the existing ticket.
I, myself, have used this method when I worked on Lansdowne Street years ago. I'd keep a ticket stuffed on my wiper blade and I never got a ticket again for being illegally parked.
One of the multiple parking garages within walking distance. I work downtown, and if I drive to work, I park in a garage. Should I be allowed to put a fake ticket on my car and park on the street outside my office?
Great response by the city. Put up "Two Hour Parking" signs so that the same hacks can now park in the same exact spots legally for "two hours." I guarantee "two hours" is unenforced and these guys just scored trouble-free all day parking.
From WBZ:
"Tinlin told us that as a result of our investigation, the city installed new signs along Nashua Street. Free two-hour parking is now available to the public."
And now the screws will come up with some coded sticker or item on dashboard and be able to park there all day instead of for only 2 hours.
They were parking in no-parking zones using fake tickets.....and the City's response was to make it free parking for 2 hours? Why was in no parking to begin with?? What a joke.

"Mayor Menino"
or do you mean "The Citizens of Boston", you must also be a proponent of PeterNice conducting highly skilled police detail on side streets!
It's even tougher for me anon.
I have a large Mercedes SUV that I usually need 2 spaces for. Thank god I work for the city so I don't have to pay like the rest of you fools.
Oh well, I have to get back to my coffee as I sit in my car on a side dead end street making $94 an hour.
Ya
But see you only make $94/hr some times, a lot of people make that without having to work overtime and sit in a car watching other people work!
Let's get something straight here.
I don't sit in a car and watch anyone work. I'm either napping or reading a paper.
And some people make $94 an hour? That's good to know. That means I am severly underpaid. I could use a new roof on my Cape house.
This is

Isn't this
a state, not city issue? I seem to remember Deval bringing this up in the past and it going nowhere.

Maybe the problem is enforcement?
MBTA
No parking required.
MBTA free parking
I see cars parked at meters all day in Brighton and Brookline. They have MBTA vests on their dashboards or seat. I need to get one of those.
Or...
One of the multiple parking garages within walking distance. I work downtown, and if I drive to work, I park in a garage. Should I be allowed to put a fake ticket on my car and park on the street outside my office?
Where does my boss expected me to park?

google maps
shows you them parking illegally, google earth/street view does not..

We can never compete with New York. They have tens of thousands of city employees parking illegally in every neighborhood.
Maybe the jail workers should
Maybe the jail workers should get Photoshop and make their own placards. At least that's what they do in NY: Bogus parking placard allows advocacy group to park all over New York City without a single ticket
