Great news for Archdale, Forest Hills residents who've been pining for chain pizza

Hank Layfield reports Domino's is moving into the old BBQ Town on Washington Street in Roslindale, which means the local franchise will finally be free of the loneliness that is that little strip mall down by the West Roxbury Parkway and well away from those activist types in Roslindale Square who managed to block its planned move into a storefront there.

Well if it aint deja vu. There used to be a steak house / pork chop place down there years ago , the 4040 Club. Also of notoriety in that neighborhood was the Barletta Construction company ( http://www.barlettaco.com/history.html ) , which had a yard on Whipple ave. That company was the bid contractor on the Clayton street Dorchester Red Line T bridge work last week. Now if McClay will only open his ice house again , weo johnny ......

Nobody pines for Domino's
Nobody pines for Domino's pizza. People only resign themselves to it.
What a bummer
BBQ Town wasn't great, but it at least provided some variety and independence to the food options along Washington. Does anyone know what caused its downfall? They closed for renovations, but never reopened.

With its target market of low income, uneducated, residents and proximity to all the triple deckers along Washington street and the housing projects behind it, Domino’s should do quite well there.

Domino's is disgusting. There is never an instance where I'd prefer a chain pizza or a chain sub (Subway) to a local HOP.
Subway and Dominos are nasty and they should leave the city.
Speaking of which
I was told by a couple businessfolk that the (relatively new) Subway in Rosi square isn't doing very well - hardly a surprise, as the square is filled with good local eateries. Also, parking along that stretch of Wash is non-existent, so double-parking Subway customers regularly snarl traffic and cause a lot of ill will.
Fwiw, the people who told me this didn't seem particularly happy about it, as the franchisee is a local and apparently an OK guy. No one likes to see a small businessperson struggle.
I miss BBQ Town, and hope that the home-grown Arboreteum Grill which is just across the street (which used to be great when it was the Blowfish but is now just 'meh') takes this as an opportunity to up their game and not get undercut by the corporate Dominos.

and several of the bus lines ended there instead of going up to forest hills.
There isn't the turnover of lunch-time crowd to make a place like that work.
Rozie needs a good sub shop
Romano's and RHOP are far from great (RHOP's pizza is awesome). Eatable while drunk yes! However Romano's sells a great "WINDNG DINNER", i hope they didn't pay for that sign!
To get off topic whats up with "Alfa" Gas? I also hope they didn't pay full price for their signage.

I'm partial to Hatoff's in JP, mainly because of the visual pun and the "Stan says: Gas is gas!" signs, and the Emporium, mainly because, well, hey, it's an emporium.
Checkmate Cafe isn't all that far out of the square if you need decent basic subs.
We all call him the "Napkin Nazi" or "Ketchup Nazi"
If you order a large fry, you get two packets of ketchup. Also he keep all the napkins locked up in a vault.
A&N is great, and if you've never tried "Real Mexican Food, Made By Real Mexican" you need to try Yucatan (That their real marketing slogan).

Is it really that hard to get
Is it really that hard to get pizza that one must resort to Domino's?
Although, I will say that I had cousins who, as kids, absolutely despised anything but plain, plain, PLAIN cheese pizza. Even the slightest hint of spice sent them into hysterics. For them, Domino's was a godsend. I hope they've long since grown out of this.
only one halfway decent pizza place in rozzie
and that is pleasant cafe. I know people liked MJs, but it wasn't anything special (or that good, quite frankly). cafe rialto was decent, but for some reason weren't open Sundays (prime pizza day) and weren't really set up for take-out, which I think was their downfall.
If there was a high-end sit down pizza place it would do well (like cambridge one), and at the other end if there was a take-out place approaching pizzaria regina good, they'd do well. Domino's is, sadly, better than what's currently in the square.

Unpleasant Cafe
The one and only time I ate there, the pizza was gross and had me on the toilet for at least a day. Plus, the inside of the restaurant is a dump.

And say that I wish Roslindale had a yuppie pizza place that has toppings like artichoke hearts, goat cheese and prosciutto. There, I said it.
At Pleasant Cafe...
... I can and do get a pizza with artichoke, jalapeno and bacon -- which I invented myself and which I think is very good. ;~}
No Parking
That is a very poor location for a business that only serves take out.
Parking is almost non-existent. I predict a lot of double and illegally parked cars.

They don't do a lot of takeout
It's mostly a delivery business. And they do have their own parking lot, which could probably suffice, especially if they repave it.

As a man, in his mid-twenties, living very close to the Forrest Hills T stop, if this means I can get pizza till 2a.m., I am all for it.
Roslindale Pizza
Don't you people realze that you have been blessed by a Nationally Rated Pizza in the form of The Pleasant Cafe? My God, when I moved from Rosie, back in the late 1970's, IT WAS THE PLACE! I now live in Florida and pine for the days of the split sided dining room with the best pie in Boston, including Reginas and Santarpios!
