Man charged with trying to burn down Masonic lodge sent for observation

A Boston Municipal Court judge today ordered Kevin Jones of Dorchester for a mental-health evaluation at his arraignment on a charge of attempted arson at the Grand Lodge of Masons at Tremont and Boylston streets yesterday.
Masons were jarred to learn he was also initially charged with causing damage to a church, synagogue, or other place of worship. After consultations with their lawyer, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office will file paperwork to withdraw that charge on the grounds that the Masons are a fraternal organization, not a religious one.
Innocent, etc.
