Olympics consultant gets an education in how the state lottery works

CommonWealth reports a consultant working on the Boston Olympics bid approached the state lottery commission about running a very special lottery to help fund Boston's Olympics effort, should it come to that. The lottery people told him no, that would take an act of the legislature, since, by law, lottery profits are only supposed to go to the state's cities and towns.
As CommonWealth notes, the consultant could have saved some time by talking to Doug Rubin, now one of the leaders of the Olympics bid but formerly an aide to Treasurer Tim Cahill, whose office oversaw the lottery.

Let this Olympic bid mysteriously flip over on I-290 late at night and we can all realize that the Commonwealth can function just fine without them.

I will say
This is the most concrete information we've heard about how this group intends to pull off financing this fiasco.
Sounds like this could actually work
But only if the legislation creating the special Olympic scratch ticket also requires the Lottery to remove the other 8,000 obsolete (in terms of available prizes) scratch ticket games from agent's shelves. Oh, and also requiring that the minimum prize available be five times the ticket price.
However, even if all this were in place, I still say NO OLYMPICS IN BOSTON.
For the record, I almost never play scratch tickets. Then again, I understand basic mathematics
Bake Sale
Here's an idea - they can hold a Bake Sale to pay for the Olympics.
Or, instead of a lottery, they can just do a 50/50 or raffle at a special fundraising exhibition. Kind of like school sports are funded.

To paraphrase a protest saying that was well know when I was growing up:
Wouldn't it be nice if the T got all the funding it needed
And the Olympic Committee had to hold a bake sale
To build an events venue.
Good Idea
Anybody who thinks the Olympics in Boston is a good idea is already baked! Or at least half-baked!
That would take a special kind of brownie in this state.
