Frozen death from above smashes car in Fort Point

Patti McCarron photographed a Subaru with its hood destroyed by ice that plummeted onto it from a building on Melcher Street today.

Silly ice
That Subaru's engine is already flat.
That person
hates Friday the 13th.
That ice ...
It is really building up on fire escapes and downspouts in Fort Point. We were taking pictures yesterday, but steering clear.
"That's my car!"
- George Costanza.
More seriously though, this reminds me of an old line that young lawyers are told to tell the business people (the ones fixated on only the bottom line-the type who would write things like the Pinto Memo) about torts in general and premises liability in particular: "what if it falls on a 29 year-old neurosurgeon?"
That old saying got a lot less pie-in-the-sky-y a few years ago when one of the people killed in the scaffolding collapse was a neurosurgeon close to 29.
C'mon people, maintain your properties, or someone's going to get killed. Lest we have to defer again to Mr. Costanza "we're living in a society here - people are supposed to work together!!!"
Holy crap, first time I've
Holy crap, first time I've ever seen damage that severe from ice here.
Lucky the windshield didn't break
There is always an upside, I suppose. If the ice hit and went through the windshield (also), there would be a big mess inside with glass and ice etc
Windshield repair comes to you
This is less convenient. I'm betting they will need to have that towed to fix that hood.
Caution
On Wednesday I walked from my office in Fort Point to North Station to make sure I made it there in time for my train home, you know, because the MBTA suggested I walk instead of trusting them to get me there. I was wishing I had snapped a picture of each "Caution Falling Ice and Snow" sign I walked by, must have been about 15 of them, collectively would have made for an interesting album. Never took them all that seriously unless they are accompanied by caution tape and saw horses to keep folks away from the area. I think I'll start taking them more seriously now!
