Hey, there! Log in / Register

We've been annoying the British government for well on 250 years; why should we stop now?

Seems Marty Walsh almost snubbed the mayor of London when the guy showed up here in the middle of one of our February snowstorms and Her Majesty's Government was right put out (not that Boris Johnson didn't find people in Boston to talk to).

Mayahs of World Class Cities (tmgfy) don't have to spend time to talk to mayahs of other (actual) world class cities. They got shit to do.

Well, the Mayor of London came here to look at whether to copy our Big Dig.

If the snub means no repeat of that for Londoners, I think the citizens of London can thank us for our rudeness.

But nobody cared while you were here. Nobody cared afterwards. Also, Marty's made it pretty clear he's just going to sign anything related to Boston2024 without reading it anyways so he doesn't need your help to do that.

What a load of crap. Talk about much ado about nothing. And the weather was THE WORSE we has since the winter of '78. Mayor Johnson's people should have planned for alternative arrangements, better still visit in spring, summer, or best, fall / autumn.

Mayor Johnson is maneuvering to become prime minister as head if the tories. His visit to Boston was designed to raise his profile. It I suppose flopped, but primarily because of the awful weather.

Predictions that Boris was angling to be the new PM hinged on a couple of possible scenarios which didn't materialise in May. Namely, that the Tories would return a minority government or would lose control of No, 10 altogether, with either scenario forcing a leadership crisis at the head of the Conservative Party. Instead, Cameron formed a majority government.

Meanwhile, Boris did a truly shite job of turning out to support other Tory candidates for marginal Labour seats in and around London. He also could never turn out the vote Oop Noorth (not that Cameron did loads better, but at least the Humberside looks like a bruise, not a stabbing). Plus, he's a bit of a bully on a good day, and a raging asshole on bad ones.

I think in the current reality, I don't see any way for the Bullingdon Blowhard to oust Cameron, and his sell-by date if he's not the Mayor of London and not a front-bencher is going to come and go quickly. Boston weather on a minor profile raising junket wasn't a factor. The complete implosion of Labour and the Lib-Dems was.

If you want Bostonians to acknowledge your visit, you need to have a guy ride a horse through the streets yelling "The British mayor is coming!" based on an elaborate lamp signal system.

You failed to notify the lamp guy of your intentions, the horseman slept in, and your visit went ignored.

By now, the number of lights in the tower had grown to a staggering amount.
