Osprey takes over the roost at Jamaica Pond
By adamg on Thu, 07/30/2015 - 3:59pm
There was this large bird sitting at the very top of one of the dead branches poking out from the little island at the north end of Jamaica Pond this afternoon. I thought it was a young bald eagle at first, but folks who actually know what they're talking about (both here and on Facebook) said no, that's an osprey.

Osprey?
I'm no expert but that looks like an osprey.
An osprey!
Not a bald eagle, but nearly as exciting.
I saw one fly over my house in Eastie a couple of months ago.
Hope it won't be poisoned by eating fish from the pond!

Very cool, hope it sticks around for a while.
rodent control
I wonder if City Hall's rodent-tracker-guys can take advantage of all these raptors?
Can we get them to patrol our alleys on trash-day mornings?
Osprey :)
They're lovely birds. There's one -- probably a pair -- that hunt in the Lower Mills area. I see them near sunrise. Once one of them was carrying a very large fish that was still flopping around in its talons. A few weeks ago, an osprey flew barely ten feet above my head. Made my day, along with the goldfinches!
I hope the birds at Jamaica Pond will be okay.
looks like
a turkey to me

Osprey! Adult.
Hopefully feeding their young nearby.
Need a marine zoologist to comment on fish rising to the surface because of bacteria?
Adorable!
Begging to differ...
Both photos appear to be of Osprey...
