Avoid Mass Ave. and Beacon Street: Repaving underway

A construction worker told a detail police officer that they hoped to complete this part of the project today.

Should have used the opportunity to redo with protected intersections.

Good. That intersection was in need of repair. This will benefit drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

Neck downs and a protected cycle track coming from the the Cambridge side of the bridge are just too much to ask for from out 1950s thinking officials.

It is ridiculous to me that weeks later we don't know the company or identity of the truck driver that killed that doctor.

Sorry to bother you. It's not just cyclists that use the road... as a matter of fact, pedestrians way outnumber cyclists at that intersection.

Just moving the curbs would be a major project. Adding cycle tracks and new traffic lights would be even harder.

I'm glad they're taking the obvious quick step of fixing the rough pavement. It's the worst thing about biking on Mass Ave. Any attention spent dodging potholes can't be used to watch for other vehicles or pedestrians.

"interim fixes coming as part of this. Repaving first."

The crews and cones are gone. Beacon Street is open but there are no lines or crosswalks so proceed with caution.

Not even those temporary stickers, which serve as lane lines until the real ones get painted in civilized places?

I was over in that area biking to/from Central Square and to say that traffic was a mess would be an understatement.

It was reported on the local tv news this morning that changes are being made to that intersection -- including changes to the bike lane and a yield to pedestrians sign.
