You're sitting at your desk when you look up and there's this hawk right in your face

Hawk outside a Cambridge window

Nate Russell snapped this visitor today on a little ledge outside his company's offices on Memorial Drive in Cambridge. "We've seen him before in the trees but never this close," he reports.

Evah!

There used to be a family over there that nested on the ledge of one of these buildings. Is he the only one left in the area? Looks like a juvenile, or at least pretty good for his age.

Hawks frequent an area until the prey gets too thin for easy pickings, then they move on. Overall, it looks to me like the hawk population is doing very well.

A pair of hawks took up residence on an office building next to the mall which includes CVS, Trader Joe's and Circle Furniture. Until a few years ago, many people came to watch them raise a family. Then the female, nicknamed Ruby, died of poison that had been ingested in a mouse or rat that she ate. A lot of us were greatly saddened.
