Jerry Remy's in the Fenway shuts again, apparently for good this time

Boston Restaurant Talk reports it could be re-opened as a place called Tony C's.

The interior of Tony C's in Assembly Sq is almost identical to the interior of Jerry Remy's in the seaport.

I assumed they were the same company given the similarity.

Last summer one of the bartenders told me that the transformation was supposed to happen over the last off season, and it never did, when the season started and it was still Remy's I just assumed it fell through but looks like now they will flip it while the Sox are on the road.

Wasn't the problem with Jerry's that nobody went there on the off season. How would Tony C's change that. Been to the Assembly one a few times and food really isn't that great.

There are plenty of other restaurants in the area that all (or mostly all) are able to make a go of it all year long. The other places have something that people seek out (good food, a fun atmosphere, cheap drinks, great staff etc or all of the above.) If other places can survive the winter then this place can too. They just need to maybe not be just "a place to go before Red Sox games."

Yeah, but that's not going to be a "sports bar and grill" that is mostly indistinguishable from Jerry Remy's. This type of thing will fly in the suburbs year-round, but not as much in the Fenway. They need to do a hybrid bar/club thing like Cask does to even have a prayer. I don't see people lining up for a place named after some player their dad romanticized.

See Citizen Public House as an example of how to survive year-round in that area; Baseball Tavern survives because it's an unassuming divey spot, while Jerry Remy's was trying to be a borderline classy spot you get chicken fingers and shitty beers.

Tony C's is just a re-branded Remy's with the same overpriced but average food, rip off drinks, and identical decor.

Handy place to meet before a game. No other reason to go there. No matter what they call it.
